Year 6 Words: Freedom & Responsibility
Year 7 Words: Mentoring & Cooperation

EXPERT ASSESSMENTS
Year 6: Polynomial Derivatives (Core), Binary Operations (Sets Option), Complex Arithmetic (Core)
Year 7: Tangent Lines (Core), Implicit Differentiation (Core), Complex Algebra (Core)
Year 8: Modular Arithmetic (Sets & Discrete Options), Transformations & Conic Sections (HL Further Math), Changing Bases (Discrete Option)

SAW -- You will have 4 math exams around the time of SAW. You will take the regular year 7 math exam with your homeroom. You will also take the year 8 math exam and the year 9 math exam session 2 (immediately after years 8 and 9 take theirs). After SAW, you will take the expert assessment on a Thursday during lunch. It will last one hour and have 12 questions, so please come early that day. To avoid lunch issues, I will order pizza on that day.

CAS CREDIT - According to Mr. Wong, ATYP "activity engages students to use their creative thinking skills and intellectual abilities and run for more than 3 months on a regular basis, it is considered as MAJOR CAS (creativity)." There may be a chance for a minor service component for ATYP leaders later in the year in designing a math competition day.

HOMEWORK TIME - Due to the fact that you no longer have class time to work on the ATYP homework, we have made the following adjustments: 1) I am assigning slightly less homework per week; 2) I am coordinating homework with your class teachers to eliminate some duplicate assignments (either I accept the New Trends or Haese & Harris homework for SOME sections;* or your class teacher may accept Math Matters homework for SOME assignments); and 3) I am trying to ensure some time in each ATYP class to work on homework. I do not want to run the homework time like a detention, and I do understand that there are a lot of other lunch time activities going on (such as House Music), so I will trial allowing students to leave after the new material portion, but if I hear from parents that you have too much homework and I notice you aren't staying for the homework time, we will have to rethink that as a class.

WA XIA BEI - Competition in January, Sign Up on September 11th, Forms Due September 19th, 4 people represent the school, but unlimited people can participate as individuals. See Ms. Yeung for more information.
